Ranked ballot or First-past-the-post?
In the 2018 Municipal Elections, The City of London was the first municipality in Canada to use Ranked Choice Voting to elect our next Mayor and City Councillor.
On November 20, 2020 the Province of Ontario enacted Bill 218, Supporting Ontario's Recovery and Municipal Elections Act, 2020. Schedule 2 of the Act removed the option of ranked ballot elections for Ontario municipalities by revoking Ontario Regulation 310/16 (Ranked Ballot Elections) and repealing Subsections 41.1 and 41.2 of the Municipal Elections Act (MEA).
Our election on October 24, 2022 will therefore be conducted by First-past-the-post voting.
Voters will cast their vote for the candidate of their choice and the candidate who receives the most votes will be elected.
