Mayor Josh  Morgan

Josh Morgan was elected as London’s 65th Mayor on October 24th, 2022.

Prior to that, he had served two terms as the City Councillor for Ward 7 being elected in 2014 and again in 2018 with support from 75% of voters.

Mayor Morgan was the first in his family to attend University after moving to London in 1998 to study at Western. During his time there, Morgan completed undergraduate degrees in Economics & Political Science, as well as an MA in Political Science.

Mayor Morgan is an active member of the London community serving in leadership positions on multiple boards and organizations. He has previously served as the City of London Budget Chair for both the 2016-2019 and 2020-2023 multi-year budgets. He stepped down from that role when he was appointed Deputy Mayor in December 2020, a position he occupied until he was elected Mayor in 2022.

He is a current member of the London Police Services Board, Western University Board of Governors, as well as boards for London Economic Development Corporation, RBC Place, and Tourism London. In addition, Mayor Morgan is a member of Civic Works Committee, Community and Protective Services Committee, Corporate Services Committee, Planning and Environment Committee, and Strategic Priorities and Policy Committee.

Process for invitations

If you would like to invite the Mayor to attend an upcoming event, please submit your request in writing and outline the occasion, date, time, location and expectation of the Mayor's role at the event. This information can be sent:

Process for certificates

If you would like to request a certificate from the Mayor to recognize a special milestone, please call 519 661-4920 with your request.  Information needed is the honouree's name, date and type of occasion, mailing address, and if the certificate is to be mailed.  Certificates can also be picked up at the Mayor's Office.  Generally, certificates are issued for birthdays of 75 years or more and anniversaries of 25 years or more. However, other special requests will be considered.

Process for letters of greeting

If you would like to request a letter of welcome to appear in an event program, please provide the following information to the Mayor's Office three weeks before your deadline date:  Name of organization; type of event (conference, tournament, concert, etc.) and its purpose (e.g., charity fundraiser); date of event and the venue.

Mayoral decisions

The Mayor has special powers and duties under part VI.1 of the Municipal Act, 2001. These include powers to:

  • bring matters to City Council that advance certain provincial priorities and veto any by-laws passed by council that may interfere with the advancement of those priorities;
  • create Committees of City Council, assign their functions and appoint the chairs and vice chairs of committees of council;
  • propose the City's budget subject to Council amendments, a mayoral veto and a Council override process;
  • appoint and dismiss the Chief Administrative Officer as well as various leadership positions;
  • direct City staff in writing for certain purposes.

There are certain powers and duties the Mayor may choose to delegate.

The Mayor is required to exercise the powers in writing and make them available to the public, subject to the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
